Load management
digitalSTROM offers power supply companies or area municipality respectively new options to optimize energy supplies and provide uninterrupted service and security of supply. As a precondition consumers need to release certain data to the power supply company. However, data control remains your responsibility and it is completely up to you, what kind of data you want to share!
The following functions are of importance:
- The power supply company is able to use the digitalSTROM transmission path, if the consumer agrees.
- Hence the power supply company is in the position to cut off parts or whole groups of electrical devices from the power grid to overcome power peaks or to benefit from cheaper energy tariffs. For instance, a refrigerator could easily be cooled down again 30 minutes prior to getting more expensive power tariffs. In case the refrigerator is refilled in the meantime, it cools down also with expensive power tariffs as a matter of course.
- Every digitalSTROM chip (dSID) permanently measures the power grid frequency. In case of an overload, the frequency decreases. Thus individual devices can be purposely switched off whereas the most important devices remain on line longest and will be supplied with energy first.
- Power supply companies will be able to provide more detailed electricity bills; power consumption or cost per device can be made visible. Customers will be able to receive a detailed invoice - like they get from mobile phone providers. Thanks to this information and differentiated tariff structures , consumers will be able to change their attitude toward energy consumption and thus save energy and money.
